Dear Georgian,

As people are taking time this week to honor President Jimmy Carter, I want also to thank him for his military service to our country. Many know President Carter as Governor and President, but few know of his distinguished career in the U.S. Navy as a young man.

Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946, the same year he married his wife, Rosalynn Carter. During his military service, he was the Senior Officer of the USS K1 submarine and later joined the Nuclear Sub Program to help develop the first atomic submarines. He retired as a Lieutenant and returned to Georgia to help on his family farm before beginning his political career.

He was the only U.S. President to have qualified on submarines, and his career earned him the namesake of USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23).

Last Friday marked the one-year anniversary of Russian War Criminal Vladimir Putin's immoral and illegal unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

The bond between the freedom-loving people of the United States and Ukraine is stronger than ever, and we honor the sacrifices of the brave Ukrainians defending their homeland. 2023 will see the liberation of Ukraine.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. Sincerely,

Visiting Comfort Farms

Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to visit with Jon Jackson, the founder of Comfort Farms, in Milledgeville, Georgia. Comfort Farms is named after Jon's dear friend, Kyle Comfort, who was killed in combat in 2010.

The mission of Comfort Farms is to serve as a vital resource for veterans across Georgia using Agro-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help veterans with PTSD and other visible disabilities.

Comfort Farms recognizes the butchers, farmers, and chefs who work together throughout the growing season to prepare seasonal and delicious meals from local, sustainable, and organic sources. The farm raises hogs, chickens, turkeys, and ducks while also cultivating heirloom seeds and seasonal vegetables grown in raised garden beds and greenhouses, all for Community Supported Agriculture.

As the Vice Chair of the House Agriculture Committee, I remain dedicated to advocating for the necessary resources and support for producers such as those at Comfort Farms. I commend the work that Jon Jackson and the people at Comfort Farms are doing to help veterans get back on their feet and reintegrate into life after service.

Meeting with Georgia College Students

On Thursday, I met with the students at Georgia College and my good friend and President of GCSU, Cathy Cox.

My conversations with these students reaffirmed my belief that many of the country’s brightest minds are educated right here in Georgia’s 8th Congressional District. I look forward to watching these students continue to learn and develop, and I know they have bright futures.

Meeting with Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce

Since Baldwin County is new to Georgia's 8th Congressional District, I met with members of the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce to learn how I can be of help to the county's interests.

I look forward to working with the Chamber and supporting the people and businesses of Milledgeville in the future.
