Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine one year ago. He thought the invasion would succeed in days – his generals were already planning victory parades when the invasion began.

But what came next shocked Putin and the world. Ukraine stood strong. And inspired the entire democratic world. 

And so, one year after Russian troops invaded, Ukraine stands strong and free. They have fought back against Putin’s tyranny, reclaiming early Russian encroachments, and holding the line for the future of their democracy. 

Here at home, President Biden has led a coalition of our allies and united the Western world against authoritarianism. Despite Putin, Trump, and Fox News’s best efforts, America’s support for Ukraine has not wavered.

President Biden walked through Independence Square in Kyiv this week side by side with President Zelenskyy, showcasing the world’s shared resolve to continue the fight – in the very place Putin had hoped to stand as a conquering dictator.

On this one year anniversary, the war continues to rage on as Putin’s strength weakens and Russia’s military falls apart. We must continue to stand with the people of Ukraine as they continue this fight for the same democratic values that we hold here at home.

Ultra-MAGA and Fox News will continue to repeat Kremlin talking points and abet Putin’s imperialistic project. Just like they continue to act as the mouthpiece for the anti-democratic movement we’re fighting here at home. 

But the democratic world will continue to stand united against them. And we will win.
