Heads up: This email discusses gun violence.

Folks —

Last Tuesday marked the five year anniversary of the day that the lives of students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida were forever changed — when a gunman murdered 17 of their fellow classmates and teachers.

The pain of that day has not gone away. And tragically, mass shootings at schools, grocery stores, movie theaters, and houses of worship have become commonplace in America. In fact, this gun violence epidemic is uniquely American — firearms are now the leading cause of death for children and teens in this country.

But it’s within our reach to end it.

“Thoughts and prayers” simply aren’t enough. That’s why we joined together with our Democratic colleagues to found the Senate Gun Violence Prevention Caucus, a first-of-its-kind group in the Senate committed to finding solutions that will prevent this epidemic from worsening.

We’re going to work relentlessly to prevent gun violence and keep our communities safe. The American people already agree on common-sense gun safety measures that would help reduce gun violence dramatically — but Congress needs to act.

Folks, that’s why we’re asking you to join us today. Will you add your name to our petition demanding that Congress take meaningful action to prevent gun violence and save lives?

Together, we’ll keep fighting for a country free from gun violence where everyone is able to thrive without fear. Thank you for making your voice heard with us.

Take care,

John
