News from Representative Allred

Dear Friend,

I've been meeting with North Texans and learning how I can help meet our region’s needs in Congress and deliver federal support for local projects that benefit our community. Here are some highlights of what I’ve been up to around North Texas lately:

On Valentine’s Day, we delivered hundreds of Valentine’s cards – written by North Texas elementary students – to veterans at the Garland VA and student veterans at UT Dallas. Our veterans deserve our deepest gratitude for their service and it was so nice to thank them in person this Valentine’s Day.

I stopped by UT Dallas to see some of the impactful infrastructure projects they're working on. I helped secure $6.8 million in federal funds for UT Dallas projects to improve the North Texas semiconductor industry workforce, to enhance UTD’s wind energy research, to create a behavioral health services center and to promote small-business partnerships.

I also met with local business leaders and the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce, representing businesses in Carrollton, Addison and Farmers Branch, at Rising Aviation High School. I was able to learn about their job training programs in aviation and discuss my work in Congress to support the aviation sector. I even got a chance to learn from some of the future pilots.

Last week, I was also proud to announce that I helped secure federal funding to support transportation-related work at Texas universities including at UT Arlington and Prairie View A&M University. UT Arlington will receive $2 million, and Prairie View will receive $4 million to create a national University Transportation Center (UTC) to help develop innovative ideas around transportation and infrastructure policy. Prairie View is the first Historically Black College and University to receive funding to create a national UTC and will be a critical partner in transportation innovation and continuing to strengthen our economy.

Back in Washington, I introduced a bill to help strengthen our campaign finance laws. The Shell Company Abuse Act would make it a felony to use or create an American shell company to conceal illegal political spending by foreign nationals. Foreign money was spent to try and influence North Texans in  my election in 2018, and it has no place in our election system. I will never stop working to root out this kind of corruption and strengthen our campaign finance laws so that only American voters influence our elections, not special interests.

It’s an honor to serve North Texas, where I was born and raised.

Sincerely,
