Irving, TX – It was a productive week in North Texas focused on tax policy. As you may know, I was recently selected to serve on the House Committee on Ways and Means, which is the chief tax-writing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. I spent the week hearing from constituents about how our tax code is hampering their ability to get ahead.

I had a productive visit and discussion with Heidelberg Materials, which employs more than 500 people in our district.

As part of my tax week, I also held a Tax Roundtable where I discussed economic issues with some of our local business leaders.

I remain concerned about reports of fraud and abuse within our hospice system. I led a bipartisan letter with my colleague, Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), to request more information from the CMS Administrator and call for increased oversight of our hospice system. You can read our full letter here.

Texas-24 Work of the Week

Earlier this week, I reintroduced legislation to help expand the availability and affordability of homeownership in America. The Uplifting First-Time Homebuyers Act is intended to create a more accessible environment for first-time homebuyers by adjusting the IRA tax exception withdrawal limit. My bill offers a long overdue solution to help increase access to capital for first-time homebuyers.

Hometown Hero

Our Texas-24 Hometown Hero of the week is Matthew JC, who founded Operation Rock the Troops, which has traveled around the world to perform music for U.S. troops since 9/11. Operation Rock the Troops has completed seven world tours in 15 countries at over 40 military bases.

Matthew also hosts performances in North Texas at local charity events to continue spreading awareness of music's healing power for veterans. I want to thank Matthew for going above and beyond to help heal and bring extra joy to the service members across our community.
