Right-wing justices have agreed to REOPEN two cases with decisions that Republicans in the legislature would like to see reversed.

Today marks a deadline for GOP legislators to file additional documents in their suit to allow extreme gerrymandering of legislative districts. If they’re successful, we can be sure the next electoral maps will be rigged against Democratic candidates.

The new GOP majority of our state Supreme Court just agreed to rehear critical cases decided only months ago under previous justices. The cases in question notably struck down Republicans’ anti-voter legislation and ultra-gerrymandered legislative district maps. It’s an appalling, unprecedented reversal of precedent, and clearly politically motivated.

The right-wing Court is bowing to pressure from Republican legislators to undo those decisions — and presumably provide new outcomes more favorable to the GOP.

I’m going to use every power at my disposal to fight back, but we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. I need you to donate anything you can right now to take a stand against the far-right takeover of the judiciary >>>

John, the Republican legislature intends to undermine our state constitution and create a judiciary subservient to their political ideology — and their efforts are already paying off.

It’s clear that these justices reject the idea of an independent judiciary and swear allegiance to the whims of the Republican legislative leadership. That isn’t how our judicial system is supposed to work, and it’s putting our democracy itself at risk.

After the Court issues its rulings, we’ll need to be prepared for the GOP to have a massive advantage in elections to come. We can only take them on if we build up our strength NOW.
