The Senate impeachment trial is officially in session, but public opinion is turning against Democrats. According to Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight, support for removing the president dropped below 50%, with those who don’t support impeachment rising to 46.3%.
The GOP has been trying every tactic to exonerate Trump of all wrongdoing and get back to stuffing the federal bench with unqualified conservative judges, passing more tax cuts for the wealthy, and killing progressive legislation from the House. This new polling could tip the scales and convince wavering Republican Senators to skip calling witnesses and give Trump and McConnell the sham trial they want.
