It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks, friend, but I wanted to take a moment to catch you up on what’s been happening and let you in on our plans for the future.

As you know, I never thought that serving as IDP Chair would be a path that I would take, but I care deeply about the success of Iowa Democrats in every corner of the state.

The costs of total Republican control are just too high. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Republicans have undermined our public schools, assaulted our fundamental freedoms, led the charge to ban books, made it more difficult for our rural communities to survive, and handed out tax giveaways to corporations and the super-wealthy.

My focus is squarely on how we can start winning elections again. Let me introduce our “Mandate for Change.”

Reconnect with folks on the ground. One of my first priorities as Chair will be to send out a survey to all 99 county parties to determine the resources they have and try to determine the resources that they need to succeed. Now, we’re building out volunteer teams to take action on those results, strengthening communications between grassroots activists and the IDP, and working toward implementing an “IDP Chair Ambassador” program.

Rebuild our fundraising base – and make it sustainable. We’re expanding our event calendar to reach Democrats all over the state instead of relying on two big, expensive events to fund the party for the year. We’re also investing in growing a sustainable, small-dollar donor base. Our Small Dollar Donor SCC committee is already working with staff on that effort. I have also created a team of former candidates and former elected officials to help with our mid-sized donor fundraising efforts.

Organize everywhere, all year. I’ve proposed a pilot program to change how we fund organizing. Instead of starting with four organizers covering 20+ counties each, we will begin with organizers who take on a couple of highly-targeted contiguous counties and are responsible for working that turf aggressively. As we are able to raise more money, we will expand that program.

Improve our data and technology. Bad data and poor technology infrastructure have cost us votes and wasted time that campaigns could use more effectively. Cleaning up the voter file and providing quality tools to our campaigns won’t happen overnight, but it must happen for us to win again.

Hold Republicans accountable in the media. We’re shifting our strategy to emphasize meeting Iowans where they are with a heavier focus on digital and social media. The IDP should be a megaphone for our leaders and a disseminator of best practices and data-driven messaging between leaders, allies, and partners.

I’ll level with you, friend, this won’t happen overnight. We have a lot of work to do and it is not going to be easy. Nothing worth doing ever is.

The next few months are going to be critical to the success of our plan – can I count on you to chip in $15 right now to help us get off to a strong start? [[link removed]]

Thanks for making it to the end of this very long email, friend. I’m so glad you’re on our team.
