This Black History Month, let us come together to celebrate the extraordinary contributions that Black Americans have made in our country and to join in our continued fight for racial justice.

Now, more than ever, we must reconcile our nation’s difficult history with the reality of where we are today. States like Florida have banned classes on Black history – Black history is American history. An attack on Black history anywhere is an attack on all of us.

I invite everyone to find opportunities this month to listen to, learn from, and amplify the voices and stories of Black communities.

The brutal killing of Tyre Nichols just weeks ago is a painful reminder of how far we still have to go to ensure accountability and create a society where our communities are safe from violence. As a mom of three, I hope for a safer and more equitable future for our children and generations to come.

And as one of only two Black Senators in our state, I know there is serious work to be done. This legislative session, Senate Democrats are committed to advancing equity in all aspects of society – from policing to healthcare to housing.

Thank you,

Senator T’wina Nobles
