John—
Five years ago today, tragedy struck the Parkland, Florida, community when a 19-year-old opened fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, taking 17 lives and injuring 17 others.
And just last night, students were once again taking cover when a gunman killed three students and injured five more at Michigan State University.
Guns are now the leading cause of death for American kids—more than car crashes and cancer.
Extremist lawmakers continue to offer thoughts and prayers, but refuse to take action. Can you help us ensure that our leaders pass lifesaving gun laws?
After the Parkland shooting, students who spent their lives practicing active shooter drills stood up and demanded change. By speaking out in the media and leading hundreds of thousands in a march in Washington DC, they brought this issue to kitchen tables across the country and transformed the gun violence prevention movement.
Inspired by the courage of these young leaders, at Giffords Law Center our experts doubled down on our efforts and helped states pass more than 279 significant gun safety laws since the Parkland shooting.
We couldn’t do this without you. Please donate today to support our work to save lives from gun violence.
As we await more details about the Michigan State shooting, our hearts are with the university community and the loved ones of the victims. We won’t stop fighting for a safer America.
With courage,
Laura
