February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate and uplift the achievements and contributions of Black Americans here in our community and across our nation.
This month and always, my team and I are honoring Black Americans for their leadership in the transformative movements of the past, present, and future that have changed our country for the better. From abolition to the ongoing battle to defend voting rights, Black Americans have been at the forefront of every civil rights movement in our nation’s history.
But as we celebrate the achievements of Black Americans, it’s important that we also reflect on the injustices that the Black community continues to face today. While we’ve made a lot of progress, Black Americans still suffer from systemic injustices and inequality throughout the country. Whether it’s closing the education gap, addressing the maternal mortality crisis, or reforming the criminal justice system, we have a lot more work to do to create a more perfect union.
It won’t be easy, but I know we can overcome these challenges and build a future that truly guarantees liberty and justice for all – and I pledge to continue fighting everyday in Congress to make that future come to fruition.
Happy Black History Month,
