Friend,
I have fought for equality throughout my time in public service, from my days as a civil rights lawyer, as mayor of Richmond, Governor of Virginia, and my service in the U.S. Senate.
That's why I was thrilled when Virginia became the 38th and final state needed to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment -- and that’s why I’m fighting for Congress to finish the job and enshrine equal protections for women in the Constitution.
Folks, are you with me? Add your name today to say it’s time for Congress to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment once and for all.
Women across the country still face unequal treatment in the workplace, unfair pay, and fewer economic opportunities.
That’s why the Equal Rights Amendment is so important.
It would be a major statement for our country in regards to justice and fairness for all -- and a step closer to the true North Star of equality that we continue to strive toward.
It’s been a long time coming. Since 1923, this amendment was introduced in every session of Congress until it was passed through the House and Senate in 1972. Congress then placed a seven-year deadline on the ratification process. Unfortunately, during that period of time, only 35 states ratified the ERA, failing to meet the 38-state threshold before the arbitrary deadline.
Now, it’s time for Congress to act: We can remove the arbitrary deadline that’s been preventing the ERA from being ratified, recognize the will of the people across 38 states, and finally guarantee women equal protection in our Constitution.
I’m working alongside my colleagues in the Senate to get it done -- but we need to know if you’re with us.
Add your name today to join the growing coalition supporting the Equal Rights Amendment to ensure equal protection for ALL folks in our country regardless of gender.
It's time to get this done!
Thanks,
Tim Kaine
