February 12, 2023

Dear Georgian,

My office received several calls and letters this week from many of you who share concerns about the Chinese surveillance balloon that was shot down by a U.S. fighter jet off the South Carolina coast last Saturday.

According to the Department of Defense, the balloon sought sensitive military intelligence. This was an unacceptable violation of U.S. sovereignty, and like many Americans, I think this is a threat to our national security and should have been taken down sooner.

It's time for corporate America to stop doing business with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). It is clear that they are an adversary of our country and our people and cannot be trusted.

I will continue monitoring Communist China as a Member of the House Intelligence and House Armed Services Committees and working to protect our nation's interests.

Attention all Veterans: On Thursday, February 16, 2023, the Atlanta Regional office is hosting a virtual claims clinic from 4PM - 6PM by appointment only. Call 404-929-3100 today through February 15th to set up your virtual appointment. Be sure to click here for more information.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Attending the State of the Union Address

On Tuesday, President Biden delivered his State of the Union Address to Congress. However, he neglected to mention key points that Americans are feeling right now.

Americans are feeling pain at the gas pump and the grocery store while they struggle to provide for their families amid record inflation, and the President is pretending that our economy is healthy and that he is open to bipartisan solutions to his many crises.

The President has never been open to bipartisan solutions. He spent $3 trillion in the last 24 months without a single Republican vote. Now the national debt is out of control, our border is overrun by crime and more illegal immigrants than five times the population of my district, and our national security is at risk from dangerous adversaries like the CCP.

Georgians and all Americans deserve the truth and an administration willing to admit the problems they’ve created.

My Republican colleagues and I are working in the House to restore our nation's security, integrity, and economy, and we urge the President to work with us.

Protecting Social Security

Contrary to what Biden said during the State of the Union, Republicans DO NOT want to repeal or reduce Social Security or Medicare.

In fact, I cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act to protect your Social Security benefits from being reduced.

This legislation repeals provisions that reduce Social Security benefits for individuals who receive other benefits, such as a pension from a state or local government or disability benefits.

Seniors should not be penalized for their lifetime of hard work, and I will always protect your Social Security.

It's unfortunate that the President chose to misrepresent the facts to Americans on national tv.

Meeting with Warner Robins Students

Now that the Capitol is open, I met with students from Feagin Mill Middle School in front of the Capitol to talk about the legislative process and answer any questions they had about my work in Congress.

It is always a privilege to spend time speaking with the bright young minds in our district.

I hope to see you and your family come by for a tour soon.

Just the News |Biden's State of Union message gets counter-programmed ... by his own administration and policies

"Rep. Austin Scott, a Republican from the battleground state of Georgia, told the 'Just the News, No Noise' television show that such frustration was driven by the contradictions between Biden's rhetoric and record.

'It's what Joe says versus what Joe does,' Scott said Tuesday night. 'And, you know, it shouldn't surprise us when he ran as the moderate in the campaign for president in the Democratic primary. And then if you look how he governs, he's extremely far to the left, even of President Obama.'

The unprecedented barrage of negative polling and self-inflicted bad news headlines was tailor-made for Bidens' chief rival, former President Donald Trump, who obliged with a stinging rebuttal to his successor's big address.

'Drug cartels are now raking in billions of dollars from smuggling poison to kill our people and to kill our children,' the 45th president declared in a prerecorded video address."

Just the News | House Intelligence member implores corporate America to untether from China to aid US security

"Last week a Chinese spy balloon was spotted entering American airspace and was eventually shot down by the military after moving out over the Atlantic Ocean. There have also been growing concerns about China buying up U.S. farmland, spurring certain governors, like South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem, to pass legislation banning such purchases.

Scott, who joined the intelligence panel last month, said that if it had not been for American citizens noticing the spy balloon, the Biden administration probably would not have done anything to stop it.

'It was an American citizen that saw the balloon,' Scott said. 'They reported it, and once the press started reporting it, the president took action. Had had we not had a U.S. citizen report it, I do not think the president would have taken action against that balloon.'"
