Hey John,

Yesterday’s reporting from the Washington Post outlines the latest display of Republican hypocrisy, this time from Florida’s Governor Ron Desantis. In emails obtained by the Post, DeSantis’ campaign requested that guns be banned from his election night celebration this past November. However, he specifically requested that the city – not his campaign – take responsibility for the weapons ban.

You see, Ron DeSantis and other Republican leaders know deep down that guns pose a public safety threat. They know that having tons of folks with guns at a crowded event is a massive risk. They know that regardless of whether it’s “good guys” with the guns, it’s still a terrible idea to allow these weapons in.

However, they only care when it’s their own safety at play. And Ron DeSantis is such a hypocrite that he won’t even admit that he doesn’t want guns at his event because he knows that it runs completely counter to his public pro-gun messaging.

John, it’s just another example of Republican leadership putting politics over people’s lives.

This news is deeply frustrating to me, but it further highlights how much work we have ahead of us in our gun safety movement. If you’re able to, please chip in to my campaign so I can continue leading the fight for reform in Washington D.C. [[link removed]]

In the midst of banning guns at his events (and trying to hide it from the public), Governor DeSantis is working on passing some of the loosest gun laws in the country. He wants to allow permitless concealed carry in Florida. He already signed a bill allowing guns into churches or other institutions that share the property with schools.

Because to Ron DeSantis, the obvious public safety risk is pretty irrelevant…well, unless it’s him and his family who are in danger. I hope people in Florida and beyond will take note.

If you’re looking to support our movement to stop the gun violence epidemic, please consider donating to my campaign so I can be prepared for the fights ahead of us in Congress. [[link removed]]
