When I think of East Texans, I think of the Minutemen of the Revolutionary War.

** Welcome to the first edition of The Moran Minuteman.
------------------------------------------------------------

This monthly newsletter will be our way of recognizing extraordinary efforts in Texas Congressional District 1 and providing an inside look into what happens behind the scenes in the life of a Congressman. I want to say again how much I appreciate your prayers and support. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve my fellow East Texans in Washington, DC.

** Who are the Minutemen? You are.
------------------------------------------------------------

When I think of East Texans, I think of the Minutemen of the Revolutionary War ([link removed]) . Loyal to country and community, dependable, selfless, and ready at a moment’s notice, the Minutemen were American heroes who helped turn the tide of the Revolutionary War. Today’s East Texans reflect those traits. You are patriotic, dependable, and deeply committed to making our communities better.

Each month, I plan to recognize an East Texan who has gone above and beyond in serving our region - someone who epitomizes the identity of a Minuteman. In addition to recognition in the monthly newsletter, we will send the person a Moran Minuteman t-shirt. Do you know an East Texan who would be a great first recipient? Please submit their name here (mailto:[email protected]?subject=I%20want%20to%20nominate%20a%20Minuteman!) .

Our Moran Minuteman team will also be out and about serving at community events and in disaster relief efforts. Look for us, and we’ll toss you a t-shirt!
Nominate a Minuteman! (mailto:[email protected]?subject=I%20want%20to%20nominate%20a%20Minuteman!)

** SOTU: Disappointed, but not surprised
------------------------------------------------------------

President Biden's State of the Union address this week left much to be desired. I was disappointed that President Biden refused to acknowledge the path he has taken our nation on is the wrong one. We know the picture he is attempting to paint, but the American people know better.

** Rooting for Mahomes in the Super Bowl
------------------------------------------------------------

Before Patrick Mahomes became the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, he was a star quarterback of the Whitehouse Wildcats and then went on to Texas Tech. As a former Whitehouse quarterback and Texas Tech alum myself, I just want to say we are very proud of this young man and wish him the best of luck this Super Bowl Sunday. GO CHIEFS!

** Delivering on Promises
------------------------------------------------------------

Out on the campaign trail, I heard over and over that we must secure our border. I agree 100%. That is why one of my first pieces of legislation as Congressman is the Border Security Investment Act ([link removed]) , which would place a transaction fee on certain money transfers sent from the United States to one of the top five countries of origin for illegal immigration. The collected revenue would then be placed in two trusts, the first to fund border security efforts - such as Border Patrol salaries, surveillance technology, and the border wall - and the second to reimburse states that have been required to fund their own border security due to the failures of the Biden Administration.

For those who like a little more "behind the scenes" content, tune into KTBB radio station for a weekly update from me about what's going on in D.C. Here's the segment from last week.

Thank you again for your continued support. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to serve the best region in the best state in the best nation in the world.
