John,
In the six years we’ve been fighting to transform our political system, we’ve helped elect working class, progressive champions to form the Squad. We’ve won against some of the most powerful, entrenched, corporate-backed Democratic incumbents Congress. And we’ve made more than a few enemies doing it.
In 2018, the DCCC blacklisted us for daring to challenge their authority on behalf of the people they’re supposed to represent.
In 2022, far-right, warhawk groups like AIPAC drowned our candidates in millions for daring to speak up for Palestinian human rights.
This week, GOP Speaker Kevin McCarthy unseated Squad member Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee for daring to interrogate human rights abuses as a Black, Muslim woman.
John, the political establishment has thrown everything they have at us.
The very people and organizations who made a point to single out Justice Democrats are working on behalf of interests that actively undermine our democracy and hurt our communities.
Former DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos, who oversaw the blacklist against JD and groups like us, has joined a firm that profits from clients in defense, pharma, and big oil. Under her leadership, the Democratic establishment outlawed us, smearing us as divisive and problematic. But at least we know that our number one priority is the people — not corporate special interests.
AIPAC and its Democratic Majority for Israel PAC dropped millions of dollars against our candidates, including new Squad member Summer Lee. They attacked a working class Black woman as being not a “real” Democrat, while endorsing over one hundred election-denying MAGA extremists.
Kevin McCarthy and his Republican cronies have targeted Ilhan Omar because she threatens their far-right foreign policy and the interests of the military-industrial complex. They’ve removed Ilhan from her committee because they couldn’t stand to see a progressive, Black, Muslim woman in a position of power.
Justice Democrats actually stand for something — which means we’re a threat to the system. It’s the grassroots movement behind us that keeps us going, so we can take on the establishment again and again.
Thank you so much for your support,
Justice Democrats
