Friend,

Last night, I was thrilled to attend the State of the Union to hear directly from President Biden on his accomplishments and his plans for the next two years.

Joining me for the speech was United Mine Workers leader James Gibbs of Bristol, Virginia. I’ve been proud to work with James to secure pensions, health care, and black lung benefits for coal miners. Because our talented workers are our economy’s greatest asset!

I was so glad to hear President Biden’s speech focus on jobs and supporting hard-working folks like James. We’ve created 12 million new jobs in the last 2 years -- a great accomplishment.

But there’s even more we can do.

Everywhere I go in Virginia -- farms, hospitals, small businesses -- I hear from people who are having a hard time hiring new employees. That’s why I’m working with leaders from both sides of the aisle to expand educational and training opportunities so that more people are trained for 21st century jobs.

Folks from all backgrounds should be able to afford job training programs, so I’m fighting to make federal Pell Grants cover more opportunities.

Add your name today if you agree: Let’s work in a bipartisan way to help people get good-paying jobs, from expanding education and training opportunities to lowering the costs of child care so parents don’t have to choose between work and family. [[link removed]]

Last night’s State of the Union was a good preview of the work we have left to do in the years ahead to lower costs, help families get by, reduce gun violence, and fight for real solutions to the problems we’re facing.

I’m proud to be in the fight -- and thankful to have you by my side.

P.S. I was also excited to watch the speech alongside my colleagues – including my good friends Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Cory Booker! Here’s a fun selfie we took as we waited for the President:
