In the spirit of tonight’s State of the Union, I wanted to share the state of our Warren Democrats movement.

Back in 2020, when we ended our presidential campaign, we wanted to make sure that all of the momentum we built for the plans we fought for didn’t end with it.

Because our grassroots movement was never just about winning one election.

Across the country, people came together to fight side by side for big, structural change — not for me, but for each other.

So we launched Warren Democrats with the mission to:

1. Help elect Democratic candidates who share our vision for big, structural change that puts power in the hands of the people.
2. Help power the fight at the federal and local level by organizing together to push for bold, popular grassroots economic and government reform.
3. Mobilize grassroots supporters to support our re-election campaign for the Senate.

After we launched, we got organized to help elect Democrats up and down the ticket, defeat Donald Trump, and send Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House.

And immediately after, we helped Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock both win their double runoff races and give Democrats the Senate majority.

Over the span of about three years, we have supported over 180 Warren Democrats in their races across the country.

About 100 Warren Democrats have won. And I’m also grateful for the terrific candidates who gave it their all, came up short, and paved a path for future campaigns.

We’ve been able to support candidates like Greg Casar, Summer Lee, and Maxwell Alejandro Frost (the first member of Gen Z to be elected to Congress!) to join the latest class of the House of Representatives — and they’ve hit the ground running, raising their voices to put our government on the side of working people.

We fought for candidates like Jessica Cisneros, who had the courage to take on an anti-abortion rights Democrat and demand better for the people of TX-28.

We helped elect candidates for governor like Tina Kotek and Maura Healey — who understand the importance of protecting abortion rights at the state level after Roe was overturned and who are committed to upholding and expanding the right to an abortion while in office.

And we supported successful candidates fighting at the local level like Ruthzee Louijeune for Boston City Council At-Large and Zo Qadri for Austin City Council District 9.

We’ve also mobilized to support organizers doing important work. In response to Roe being overturned, we came together to support local abortion funds in the 13 states with trigger laws and supported grassroots organizations in Kansas and Michigan to enshrine abortion rights at the state level.

In short, you’ve helped power righteous fights, which is exactly what I asked this movement to do after we suspended our campaign. Because when things get tough — and they will — you will know that there is only one option ahead of you: Nevertheless, you must persist.

Side by side, we’ve been continuing to persist ever since — and the state of our grassroots movement is strong.
