Friends —

By now, if you’ve heard the name George Santos, you’ve probably heard some conflicting information. It’s been difficult to keep track of what’s true and what isn’t out of what he says, so, let’s help get you some clarity:

Let’s play a quick game: Two Truths and a Lie - George Santos Edition:

Can you guess the lie?

Santos was the head of a financial firm that was later shut down after being accused of running a Ponzi scheme by the Securities and Exchange Commission — it was later revealed that this firm had scammed hundreds of investors and was accused of circulating fraudulent documents. This firm was found to be making many donations to his Congressional campaigns.

Santos has a criminal record and was charged with fraud in Brazil in 2008. He was found to have used a stolen checkbook and identity to make purchases in the country but was not formally indicted because he fled to the United States.

Santos has an outstandingly successful resume. He is a well-educated individual, even graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baruch College and went on to get an MBA from NYU! He is an experienced banker on Wall Street, a Journalist for a Brazilian newspaper, and has an expansive real-estate portfolio of 13 properties.

We’ve heard numerous lies come out of Santos’ mouth — including ones that have abused tragic attacks in our country like 9/11 and the Pulse nightclub shooting — but the only truths we do know don’t look so good for him. And they don’t reflect the character of someone who should be representing our country. At the end of the day, we do know for certain that George Santos is a serial liar and a fraud who manipulated his voters. His lies and disinformation pose a danger to our democracy.

So today I am asking you to join me in calling on Congress to Condemn George Santos and his serial lies. Please add your name to my petition if you agree. [[link removed]]

We've seen the consequences of lies on our democracy. We saw it on January 6th, 2021 when thousands of right-wing extremists stormed our nation's Capitol after some of our government elected officials spewed lies and conspiracies about a stolen election. These lies cost lives. These lies put our democracy in danger.

Santos opens the door to more and more candidates who can blatantly lie to voters and be elected to office. That is a danger to our democratic process.

So, please, add your name to join me in calling on Congress to Condemn George Santos and his serial lies today. [[link removed]]

Thank you,

Robert Garcia
