Friend,

Later tonight you're going to hear a lot of spin about the State of the Union after President Biden delivers his address to the American people. But before you are deluged by the spin doctors, I want to take a moment to talk about the progress we have been able to make over the past year thanks to President Biden.

This past year President Biden signed over 250 bills into law. These included legislation to lower Medicare prescription costs for Americans, put our country on track to combat the impact of the climate crisis and shift our economy toward a more sustainable clean energy future.

We not only made important gains in health care and climate policy, we boosted our economy and created a record number of jobs. Today we are seeing the lowest unemployment rate in more than 50 years — and last year was the second-best year ever for job growth in America. As President, Joe Biden oversaw an economy that added 4.3 million jobs! Nothing to sneeze at!

Joe Biden also finally put to rest the old joke about the 'infrastructure week' that never launched. As a result of the 2021 infrastructure bill this year we saw states and municipalities across the country investing in better roads and bridges, stronger transit, modernized airports and ports and affordable accessible high-speed internet.

We also worked with the President to address our democratic deficits — confirming over 100 judges to the federal bench, passing the Respect for Marriage Act and protecting marriages from discrimination on the basis of sex, race, or ethnicity. And, while it fell short of what we would have wished for, we passed the first federal gun safety legislation in decades.

I don't need to tell you how tough it can be to make progress in this divided political atmosphere. That makes these accomplishments even more noteworthy.

We have our work cut out for us now that Republicans control the House of Representatives. But tonight let's celebrate all that we have accomplished together this past year. We have the power to do so much more if we keep working together.

Onwards,

Chris
