Friend,

In the space of just one week, 400 CeaseFirePA supporters from 142 PA House districts signed a petition urging Speaker of the House Mark Rozzi to prioritize lifesaving gun violence prevention bills in the new General Assembly session. I recently had the opportunity to hand-deliver those signatures to the Speaker himself, after testifying at his listening session in Pittsburgh [[link removed]]. If you didn’t sign the petition yet, that’s okay! You still have a chance to add your name to this stack of support.

This year, we'll have the best opportunity in a long time to advance a gun safety agenda in Harrisburg. Please make sure your voice is part of this movement and that Speaker Rozzi hears from you.

Sincerely,
Josh Fleitman

Adam's original message:

With a new Speaker of the House in Harrisburg, we have a key opportunity to motivate legislative leadership to protect Pennsylvanians from gun violence. Speaker Mark Rozzi is a staunch advocate for survivors of abuse and violence. He’s gotten seemingly impossible things done before to make our state a safer place to live [1] and we are counting on him again to advance gun safety measures.

The current state of gun violence in our commonwealth is bleak. Did you know Pennsylvania averages a mass shooting every 10 days? And that, on average, a Pennsylvanian is shot every two hours? But this is about more than startling numbers – it’s about the real people whose lives were lost or forever changed by gun violence. Like Shalon Buskirk, a mother from Allentown who lost two young sons in separate shootings five years apart [2]...or the parents of the 13-year-old girl who was shot and killed by her 16-year-old friend at his home in Bensalem [3].

As Speaker, Representative Rozzi sets the agenda for the House. He decides what bills come to the floor, the individuals who serve as committee chairs, and generally governs the body. We need your voices to come together to show Speaker Rozzi that Pennsylvanians everywhere need him to support and move bills that will help end gun violence.

By calling on Speaker Rozzi to prioritize gun safety laws in 2023, you can be part of the solution.

We plan to hand deliver a petition to him urging his support for legislation to create Extreme Risk Protection Orders, require the reporting of lost and stolen firearms, and institute background checks for every gun sale. Please help us demonstrate how crucial these laws are to all of us who want a safer place to live, work and raise our families.

Sincerely,
Adam
