Ilhan Omar is a leader with strength and courage, and a critical voice in our fight for justice.

Friends -

Earlier today, every Republican in the House of Representatives voted to remove Ilhan Omar — a third-term Muslim American woman — from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

This is a disgraceful day for the House.

I happened to be at dinner with Ilhan Omar and her daughter a few years ago when we heard news that thousands of people at a Donald Trump rally were chanting, “send her back.”

To my surprise, Ilhan was pretty unfazed. Sadly, she told me, she has been dealing with this kind of hatred and bigotry for a long time.

I know Ilhan is a leader with strength and courage. She is a critical voice in our fight for justice in America, and I know she won’t back down after today’s vote, because she never has never backed down before.

So I want to ask you to do something important that will help ensure her voice is with us in Congress for a long time to come:

Can you please split a contribution between Ilhan Omar’s re-election campaign and our political revolution as well? Let us come together to support a courageous leader of our movement on a day she needs us most.

Our job is to unite the American people, not divide them based on their race and religion.

We have stood together with Ilhan when she’s been attacked before — just as she has stood with us. Let us support her one more time today.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders
