Yesterday, Social Security Works and our allies launched DontCutSocialSecurity.org, a website where we’re asking our members of Congress to pledge never to cut our Social Security or Medicare system.

Already, 180 members have taken the pledge―and we’re adding more every hour.

Wall Street’s paid liars are already calling us ‘the Grover Norquist of the left.’¹ And to that we say: Hell yes. The American people deserve a bloc in Congress that is as united around protecting our earned benefits as Norquist’s lackeys are around protecting tax giveaways to billionaires.

This is a resource-intensive campaign. We have lobbyists meeting on Capitol Hill, activists calling and writing their members of Congress, people on social media raising this to Congress’s attention, and more. Can you chip in $7 today so we can keep this up?

The corporate media starts with the assumption that taxes can never be increased because so many Republicans have taken Grover Norquist’s pledge. So instead of talking about how to fund programs that Americans rely on, they put pressure on Democrats to cave and cut popular programs. We need to show the media the reason that Social Security and Medicare are called the ‘third rail’ of politics.
