Freedom Network USA to Lead the Development of Standards of Care
Freedom Network USA is pleased to announce the launch of the Standards of Care for Anti-Trafficking Service Providers (Standards of Care) Project. FNUSA was competitively awarded a 3-year cooperative agreement by the Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) ([link removed]) . FNUSA will work in partnership with OVC and the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Trafficking in Persons (OTIP) ([link removed]) to lead the development of the Standards.

The Standards of Care will provide guidance on the development and implementation of services for survivors of human trafficking. Through the creation of Standards of Care, FNUSA, OVC, and OTIP intend to promote uniform service standards to ensure consistent quality and reduce harm to trafficking survivors. FNUSA is committed to the human rights-based approach to human trafficking, placing the expertise, priorities, and choice of trafficking survivors at the center of anti-trafficking services. These Standards of Care will ensure that individuals who experience trafficking can expect to receive quality care when seeking help from OVC and OTIP-funded programs.

Blog on the 2022 Trafficking Victims Protection Act Reauthorization

In 2000, Congress passed the United States’ first comprehensive anti-human trafficking legislation, the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA). Since then, this landmark legislation has been reauthorized seven times to expand the scope of protections and services available to survivors, increase the funding available to anti-trafficking programs, and enshrine more rights for survivors. A package of four bills was introduced in 2022 to reauthorize the existing victim services programs and establish new protections for survivors. Our Senior Policy Specialist, Emma Ecker, has written an analysis of the signed bill.
