Right now, the House GOP is refusing to raise the debt ceiling, even after the country has exceeded its debt limit.
 
That’s right. The so-called “party of fiscal responsibility” doesn’t think America should honor its financial commitments.
 
 
BUT there is one scenario where Republicans have said they’d consider voting to raise the debt limit — if Democrats agree to spending cuts on vital programs like Social Security and Medicare. Republicans want to either tank the economy or make it harder for Americans to access the benefits they’ve paid into all their lives.
