Capital location makes free-market reforms accessible to policymakers Badger Institute Opens New Madison Office Capital location will make free-market reforms more accessible to policymakers CONTACT: Michael Jahr: [email protected] or (262) 442-5208 Jan. 30, 2023 – The Badger Institute, the state’s oldest free market public policy research organization, announced today it has opened an office in Madison, across the street from the Capitol. The office, located at 25 W. Main St. on the fifth floor, will be used by Badger Institute lobbyists Jim Bender, educational consultant, and Michael Jahr, vice president of communications and government relations. It will also provide space for meetings and events. The Badger Institute’s headquarters will remain in Milwaukee. “A regular presence in Madison will allow us to more effectively provide research and educational resources to Madison policymakers and others in the Capitol,” said Badger Institute President Mike Nichols. “Our work has informed the public debate in Wisconsin for 35 years, but it’s not enough to just generate good ideas. We need to make sure that lawmakers are familiar with proven reforms and the benefits they can produce for their constituents. “We remain committed to providing the most substantive, reliable policy research in Wisconsin,” Nichols added. “Our recent Mandate for Madison is probably the most robust, in-depth policy blueprint produced in Wisconsin. This new space will simply enhance our ability to advocate for free market principles and shape legislative outcomes.” State Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu (R-Oostburg) and Rep. Rob Brooks (R-Saukville) last week cited the Badger Institute’s Mandate in a circulated memo seeking lawmaker sponsors of legislation that would establish a flat tax for Wisconsin. The Badger Institute, formerly the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit institute established in 1987 working to engage and energize Wisconsinites and others in discussions and timely action on key public policy issues critical to the state’s future, growth and prosperity. The institute’s research and public education activities are directed to identify and promote public policies in Wisconsin that are fair, accountable and cost-effective.
