Dear Georgian,

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is reserved for emergency purposes like natural disasters. Many of you have contacted me over the past year expressing concern about the Biden Administration draining the SPR for political purposes while he and his administration attacked American energy production.

I share your concerns as the SPR is currently at its lowest level since 1983, which puts our nation at risk. I am pleased to let you know that on Friday, the House passed the Strategic Production Response Act, which limits the drawdown of petroleum in the SPR for non-emergency purposes until the Department of Energy develops a plan to increase the percentage of federal lands leased for oil and gas production.

Now that Republicans control the House of Representatives, we are prioritizing unleashing American energy production and working to reestablish American energy dominance for generations to come.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Congressman Austin Scott

Appointed to House Intelligence Committee

Last week, Speaker Kevin McCarthy appointed me to serve on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI).

HPSCI is charged with oversight of the United States Intelligence Community, which includes the intelligence and intelligence-related activities of the U.S. Government, including the Military Intelligence Program.

I’m honored to have been selected to serve on the House Intel Committee and work with Chairman Mike Turner to ensure the safety and security of our nation and the free world.

Celebrating Georgia Peanuts

We celebrated National Peanut Butter Day on Wednesday, which is extra special in Georgia since our state leads the nation in peanut production!

To support the peanut industry, I joined colleagues in sending a letter to the USDA and the USTR opposing non-tariff trade barriers on peanut imports into the European Union.

These unnecessary trade barriers hurt our peanut-producing regions and compound the struggles our farmers are already facing.

Standing Up for America's Farmers

Georgia's farmers don't need the EPA burdening their operations, which is exactly what the new Waters of the United States (WOTUS) ruling does.

Our farmers and ranchers rely on clear and reasonable regulatory guidance from government agencies to continue to provide the food and fiber we all depend on. However, the EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently released a fourth definition of WOTUS, which has created confusion and an unfair situation for our farmers and landowners.

This new definition can disrupt normal farming activities by requiring a federal permit for things like changing the type of crops grown on a field or even building a fence on private land.

I joined colleagues in sending a letter to the EPA and U.S. Army expressing opposition to this rule and urged them to rescind this damaging decision.

Fox News |Republicans Call for Search of Biden's Senate Papers: 'No Stone Should be Left Unturned'

Several Republicans are calling for a search through President Biden’s sealed Senate papers he gave to the University of Delaware before becoming vice president during the Obama administration.

Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., who was recently appointed to the House Intelligence Committee, also demanded a search, telling Fox News Digital that the "President has demonstrated a concerning lack of care when handling classified documents at seemingly all stages of his career."

"Therefore, authorities must investigate other potentially mishandled materials that could pose a significant threat to our national security," Scott continued.

Just the News | New House Intel Committee member calls for national security damage assessment on Biden family

"Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.), one of the newest members of the GOP-led House Intelligence Committee, is calling for a national security damage assessment on the Biden family, following the discovery of classified documents at multiple locations connected to President Biden.

'I think so,' Scott responded when asked Thursday on the John Solomon Reports podcast whether such an assessment should be made. 'I would also tell you that the difference I see is that the Biden documents were in an area where other people clearly had access to them. And I have serious questions about the amount of wealth that the Biden family has.'"
