Hello John — it’s Ciara Malone, Legal Director of March For Our Lives. I wanted to give you an exciting announcement on our judicial work.

Yesterday, we filed an amicus brief alongside the law firm Tabet DiVito & Rothstein LLC to support Highland Park’s ban on assault weapons.

Two months after a shooter used an assault weapon to kill 7 people and injure 48 others at Highland Park's annual 4th of July parade, gun lobbyists sued the city of Highland Park over its assault weapons ban.

Unconcerned about the recent tragedy that struck this community, the Plaintiffs want to enable even more people to have and carry these deadly weapons. March for Our Lives filed an amicus brief in this case, telling the stories of some of those July 4th survivors.

Highland Park's assault weapons ban is an important tool to prevent future tragedies from happening, and it is important that the judge in this case understand the full human impact that assault weapons and mass shootings have on individuals and their communities.

We all have a duty to protect the most vulnerable among us, and taking weapons of war off the streets is a critical step to preventing the next tragedy.

Thanks for all of your support. Look out for more updates on this case in the future.
