Dear John,

Today, we kicked off the 2023 legislative session with our partners in Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition! We heard from lawmakers and advocates about bills to advance climate action, further environmental justice, protect biodiversity and our environment, and cultivate healthy Maine communities.

In case you missed it, you can watch a recording of our kick-off event on our YouTube channel.

The coalition’s seven priority bills for 2023 include legislation to:

  • Recognize tribal sovereignty;
  • Advance environmental justice for all Maine people;
  • Foster a responsible offshore wind industry for Maine;
  • Conserve endangered & threatened species habitat;
  • Secure the future of Maine's forests;
  • Invest in Maine trails statewide; and
  • Amend Maine’s Constitution to establish environmental rights for all, for generations.

Read more about priority bills here.

Getting these bills over the finish line will take all of us, and we’ll need your help. In the coming weeks and months, we're looking for volunteers who can commit to contacting their elected officials to ensure they support these critical bills.

Sign the Pledge to Take Action

We are starting 2023 in a strong position, with conservation majorities in both chambers and an ally in the Blaine House who champions most of our agenda.

But getting new legislation passed won't be without challenges: lawmakers will have many competing priorities, and our opponents will be working to stall or derail efforts to protect Maine's environment. We'll be counting on help from you and other members and activists around the state to build grassroots support and make sure legislators know just how many Mainers care about tackling the climate crisis, advancing environmental justice, and protecting Maine’s treasured lands and waters.

Thanks for everything you do,
