** 5 easy tips to help you give up smoking

------------------------------------------------------------

** Writing for The People’s Friend, journalist Jackie Mitchell discusses 5 tips to help you stop smoking:
------------------------------------------------------------
1.
** Set a date on when you will become a non-smoker and let family and friends know you’re stopping smoking.
------------------------------------------------------------
2.
** Ask for help; your GP or local pharmacy will be all too willing to help you on your journey to becoming a non-smoker. They can give advice on what’s available to help curb the cravings, whether that’s nicotine replacement products or smoking cessation clinics where you would benefit from being around other people going through exactly the same thing as you.
------------------------------------------------------------
3.
** Keep yourself busy. If you have set times when you would normally smoke, break the habit. Take yourself off to do something else
------------------------------------------------------------
4.
** When cravings hit, remind yourself of all the reasons why you want to stop. Physically write down the benefits.
------------------------------------------------------------
5.
** Along with the obvious physical benefits of stopping smoking, there’s also a financial reward, too. Put aside the money you would have spent on cigarettes and keep it separate from any other savings so you can see exactly how much isn’t going up in smoke.

** Hampshire County Council says it wants to concentrate on prevention to ease pressure on NHS and social care
------------------------------------------------------------

** Members of Hampshire County Council health committee say they want to focus on prevention as they try to ease the pressure on a cash-strapped and creaking social care and NHS system.

The council's health and adult social care select committee met in Winchester on Tuesday and highlighted the importance of prevention in the early stages to ease pressure on social care services.

Prevention is one of the main priorities of the council, and following the National plan for 10 years and the Prevention Green Paper ([link removed]) , the council will work collaboratively with external organisations to support the system.

** Juul in deal talks with three tobacco giants
------------------------------------------------------------

** E-cigarette maker Juul Labs Inc is in early talks with three tobacco giants for a potential sale, strategic investment, licensing or distribution deal, the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Juul, which was reportedly looking to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, has had separate discussions with Philip Morris International Inc (PM.N), Japan Tobacco Group (2914.T) and Altria Group Inc (MO.N), the report said.

A deal is not imminent and the discussions may not result in a sale or partnership, people familiar with the discussions told the Journal.

The company, partly owned by Marlboro maker Altria, declined to comment.
