What a year it’s been so far.

After 15 rounds of voting for House Speaker, I was honored to be sworn in a few weeks ago as I began my second term serving Wake County in Congress.

House Democrats stood united in those first chaotic days of the new term, and we stood united again as Republicans immediately tried to fast-track bills threatening women’s reproductive freedom.

It’s clearer than ever: House Republicans are going to use their new majority to push extreme legislation like this — and I hope you’ll consider pitching in to help as we prepare for the fights ahead:

While House Republicans’ first agenda item was pushing anti-abortion legislation at odds with the needs of women across the country, my focus remains on helping the people I was elected to serve.

There’s plenty of work ahead of us: I’m hearing from folks every day about the rising costs of housing and health care, and I’m proud of the steps I’ve taken to help. In the last Congress, we passed historic legislation that will lower health care and energy costs for North Carolinians — and we’ve secured millions in funding for affordable housing projects in Wake County.

But there’s more we can — and should — do to help North Carolinians get ahead: Continuing our work to lower everyday costs. Protecting reproductive freedom under federal law. Keeping up the fight to expand Medicaid in North Carolina.

I ran for office in the first place because of my strong faith in the American promise: that by working together, we can improve people’s lives. I’m still a firm believer in that promise, and I’m ready to keep delivering solutions. I’m glad to have you in this fight, too.

Thank you for everything, and for taking the time to read this message.

— Deborah
