Re-establish 101 years of protections for migratory birds.TAKE ACTION

[[link removed]]John,
The future of migratory birds is uncertain.
Over a century ago, activists and lawmakers saved migratory bird species like
the snowy egret from extinction and decline by passing the Migratory Bird Treaty
Act.
This landmark legislation has helped underpin the nation’s bird conservation
efforts—including the minimization of industrial hazards that protect migratory
bird species from avoidable harm. But now, the Trump Administration is applying
the law in a way that removes a century’s worth of protections and puts
countless birds at risk.
Congress should step in by passing new legislation that would restore these
important protections. Please ask your member of congress to re-establish protections for migratory
birds by supporting the Migratory Bird Protection Act.

Driven to near-extinction a century ago, snowy egrets have since recovered
largely because of the protections offered under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
This graceful waterbird relies on wetland ecosystems to fish and forage in the
shallow waters of estuaries or marshes.
The Trump Administration’s reinterpretation of the law now means there is no
longer any legal protection against incidental or accidental bird deaths from industrial activities. Migratory birds like the snowy egret are facing increased habitat loss and
exposure to toxic chemicals , and yet unintended bird deaths, which can be significant, now go unaddressed.
Under this interpretation, if an oil spill like Deepwater Horizon occurred
today, the company responsible would have no financial responsibility for their
impact on migratory bird species. We need your help to keep companies responsible for the avoidable deaths of our
birds.

The Migratory Bird Protection Act can bring an end to this misinterpretation of
the law, and advance conservation for the future of migratory birds.
The Migratory Bird Protection Act would reaffirm strong protections for birds,
by:
* Incentivizing conservation efforts for migratory birds
* Creating a permit program to provide clear guidance for industry on best
management practices to avoid harm to birds
* Offsetting unavoidable bird losses with increased funding for bird
conservation
Now is the time to shape the next 100 years of migratory bird conservation. Please take action to reaffirm a safe and dependable future for migratory
birds.
