John — I know. It’s early. And 2024 feels like a long time from now.
If I’m going to be emailing you asking for a donation -- split with Southern Progress -- to our grassroots campaign to defeat Josh Hawley [[link removed]] , then I owe you a real explanation. So please, give me just a couple minutes of your time:
I know you’ve already heard a lot about how much of a fraud and coward Josh Hawley is. When we launched this campaign last week — just two years after Hawley raised his fist and then ran for his life on January 6 — we made a lot of noise. And from online and to prime time TV, we’ve kept the hits going.
But from the moment we’ve been in this race, Hawley and the corporate interests supporting him have already been hitting back — from the National Republican Senatorial Committee to Breitbart.
That’s because they know we’re a threat. They know that over the past three election cycles, Missourians voted to raise the minimum wage nearly 5 dollars higher than the federal level, expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, and legalize marijuana . They know Missourians even elected a Democrat statewide to be our Auditor — by a 6% margin.
Missourians have been fighting hard to claw back power from corrupt politicians like Josh Hawley for years — and Hawley knows we have a grassroots movement that can harness that energy. That’s why, on the same day we launched our campaign, he sent a message to his donors warning we’d “love nothing more than to take back Missouri. We CAN'T let that happen.”
So here’s what that all tells us: Hawley is going to come at us hard, fast, and early. That means our best shot at winning this race is building a record-breaking movement right from the start so we can fight back, get our positive message in front of Missouri voters, and hold him accountable for betraying our country.
And that’s why I’ve got to ask today, even if it feels early: Can I count on you to split a donation of $25 or whatever amount feels right between our grassroots campaign and Southern Progress today?
