There were several events that many members of the Republican Party Bexar County and I attended. It is encouraging to celebrate in unison and to take to heart the message brought to light by Reverend King and the reason for this holiday. This holiday was to help us remember that everyone is a member of the human race and deserves to be treated with dignity and respect as a child of God. It is now time that we bring good back! Our work as representatives of your Republican neighbors at the CEC is entering a critical stage in two areas. On one side, we have the municipal and school board elections being conducted, and on the other side, we have the Texas Legislature in its new session. Candidates began filing today for the May 6th General Election and the 88th Legislative Session convened last Tuesday. What an enormous task we have before us to allocate our time to each of these activities and their actors. Both events are extremely important. This includes the Precinct Chairs' duties of managing the County Executive Committee and making decisions that prioritize how the time and the treasure should be allocated. In addition to the marches, I attended State Rep. John Lujan’s organized brief gathering Saturday evening, January 14th. Joining me were State Rep. Steve Allison, and State Rep. Mark Dorazio. The three local representatives and I met to share some thoughts and information concerning the first week of legislation. All three representatives explained the vote for Dade Phelan as Speaker of the House of Representatives in Austin the same way. According to the Republican Rules, a candidate for Speaker is selected in caucus by majority. The Republican Caucus Rule calls for all Republican Representatives to support and vote for the Republican nominee when the vote is called for on the floor to elect a Speaker of our Representatives in Austin. In this instance, the wise men chose to follow the rules. Please remember that if everyone followed the rules there would not have been the American Revolution. Rules are intended to help, not hang. The State Reps and I agreed on some key issues that will need to be addressed: 1. Property Tax – perhaps even eliminating or prohibiting property tax on homesteads 2. The effect of Lobbyists – obstructing the good bills' passage and denying lobbyists access to taxpayer money 3. Gender Modification laws – protecting children from abuse 4. Defense of Women’s Sports – prohibiting transgender individuals from competing Some dates for clarification were offered: 1. Committee appointments will be announced on January 26th 2. Bills will be coming forth in the month of March Finally, we all agreed that periodically the four of us need to meet in order to see where each of us is, to discuss what bills are being proposed, and to see how the others, including the CEC, can assist.   Bus to Austin Jan. 24   Austin Trip Tuesday, Jan. 24 $50 per seat More details coming soon to this link : Sign up and pay here by Jan 18th 8 am -Meet and park at the Republican Party of Bexar County Headquarters, 10300 Heritage Blvd Ste 240, San Antonio, 78216 10 am Arrive at the Capitol and Attend Legislative Briefing by Senator Bob Hall and others. 3 pm bus leaves for the return trip   Party Business   CEC Meeting Tuesday, January 24, 6 pm - 9 pm Save the date Information HERE   Precinct Chair Orientation Saturday, January 21, 12 pm - 2 pm Bexar County Republican Headquarters 10300 Heritage Blvd Ste 240, San Antonio, 78216 Training for all new precinct chairs.
