I remain committed to freedom, equality and justice Dear john, Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose commitment to justice and equality is a guiding light in the continued pursuit of the ‘Beloved Community’. I began today’s observance at the 2023 Beloved Community Commemorative service held at Ebenezer Baptist Church; the church Dr. King co-pastored until his assassination in 1968. During the service, his daughter, the Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King, reminded us to “Move from the quotable and convenient King to the living King!” In other words, we must dig deeper than Dr. King’s often-quoted words as we act upon his vision for a better country. As Congresswoman for Georgia’s Fighting Fifth, home of Dr. King, I am inspired by his vision daily. In the halls of Congress, I’m working to challenge the injustice that plagues our communities, protect our right to vote and achieve the economic justice that makes true racial justice possible. On #MLKDay, let us all reflect on our contributions to the movement for civil rights. By working collectively, guided by truth and grounded in love, we will bring the dream of freedom, equality and justice to life!
