Today, our nation celebrates the spirit and courage of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We heed his reminder that speaking out and taking action in the face of injustice is our greatest responsibility.

He maintained an unshakeable faith in this country and its people: that we could conquer hate and division and form a "beloved community" rooted in equality and justice for all.

As we follow in his footsteps and aspire to realize a world that Dr. King hoped for, I am grateful to each of you for being active citizens. I am grateful for your participation in the long fight for a more just society.

Thank you for everything you do.
