Team,

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

As we take time to reflect on Dr. King's contributions to the Civil Rights movement and how far our country has come in the fight for equality, let us also remember that, while Dr. King's dream is still alive, his work remains unfinished.

Dr. King led by example. He showed us when we come together, we have the power to create change. So, while we reflect on the progress we've made in decades past, we also must acknowledge that our work is far from over.

As Dr. King once said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

The struggle for justice, equality, and peace is ongoing, but together, I know we can get closer to living up to our ideals every day.

I believe in the promises of our nation. A nation where every American can vote without facing discriminatory barriers – where we embrace the principle of equal pay for equal work; where everyone has affordable health care; where every person can live with dignity; and where every person's civil rights are protected and guarded fiercely.

These are principles that should guide our country, and on this day — and every day — I hope you'll join me in recommitting to the fight for a better future for all.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a reminder of what's possible when we refuse to sit quietly in the presence of injustice. I will keep pushing to form that more perfect union, and I am grateful to have you by my side.

It's an honor to serve you,

Derek
