Hello from the Lightfoot for Chicago Campaign!
The new year brings us into the home stretch of the race, and we’re ramping up accordingly. We’re committed to getting our message out to voters across Chicago, so our campaign released two new ads since the start of the year.
When Mayor Lightfoot was elected in 2019, she set out to do away with the old style of Chicago politics. She began by fighting long-standing practices of corruption to ensure that our city could serve and support all Chicagoans. So our first ad of 2023, “More,” calls out opponent Chuy Garcia’s history of shady relationships in Chicago and Illinois politics with crypto crooks, indicted politicians and pay-to-play profiteers.

Mayor Lightfoot is also working relentlessly to improve public safety and reduce violence in our city. The Mayor knows that we didn’t get into this situation overnight, and change takes time. Plus, we can’t just arrest our way out of the problem—we must invest our way through it because the root causes of violence require unique, neighborhood-informed approaches. With this in mind, our second new ad, “Facts,” spotlights Mayor Lightfoot’s ongoing efforts to reduce crime.

In addition to our new ads, we’re excited to share that Mayor Lightfoot participated in her first mayoral forum last Saturday with Access Living. The forum focused on people with disabilities and the issues they face, and Mayor Lightfoot illustrated the work her administration has been doing to make Chicago the most accessible city in the country.
Growing up, Mayor Lightfoot’s father completely lost his hearing after an illness, and today the Mayor lives with a hearing-related disability. Mayor Lightfoot has an intimate understanding of the issues that people with disabilities face, and she works tirelessly to improve access. For example, Mayor Lightfoot:
Passed a $15 minimum wage and eliminated an exemption that allowed people with disabilities to be paid a subminimum wage.
Invested $1.2 million to increase disability employment
Launched the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities Career Center, which is already helping Chicagoans with career readiness and job searches.
While other candidates at the forum shared admirable values statements to address the issues faced by people with disabilities, Mayor Lightfoot is actually doing the work, quarterbacking a plan, getting the job done, and building on previous investments to ensure that Chicagoans from every walk of life can find their place in their community and in the workforce.

We’re focused on making inclusive and equitable change across Chicago, and we wouldn’t be able to do this without you. Thank you for your support.
