it's the first week of House leadership under Republicans and they're already coming after our basic rights. continue reading

John, this week marks the first week of House leadership under Republican rule. Already, they have sought to make tax loopholes for the top 1% easier, and now they are targeting access to reproductive healthcare.

Their latest efforts may seem like more political theater than anything else, but this is all in a larger plan to continue peddling lies about abortion and women's healthcare. Their newest bill, the "Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act" is a new reiteration of a bill that passed in 2002. But, it creates the image that doctors do not give care to infants born after an attempted abortion - which, according to the CDC, is very rare and often in the case of fetal abnormality or the health of the mother.

The CDC also notes that over 90% of abortions are performed before 13 weeks of gestation, and those after are typically a tragic and last resort scenario. Bills and statements like these from the GOP are designed to pivot the attention onto problems that don't exist. Medical professionals are required by law to render care to anyone in a critical state. But again, shifting the focus of the conversation and pretending like abortion is a flippant and callous choice made with intentional cruelty - that is what the GOP wants to do. They do NOT want to have the more intense conversations about WHY abortions happen and how to improve lives

John, they struck down Roe and with House control they are more emboldened than ever to keep coming after our basic rights. We must take steps now to take back the House, chip in and join this fight!
