A discussion with Cathy Reay for Mental Health Awareness Month (From Royal Holloway, University of London), Thursday 19 January, 3.00 - 4.30pm

Royal Holloway have designated January 2023 as their own Mental Health Awareness Month. They invite current and former students, staff and the public to join a discussion about mental health with Cathy Reay and staff and student representatives from Royal Holloway. Cathy Reay (she/her) is a disabled queer writer and speaker. Her work chiefly focuses on the themes of disability justice, accessibility, single motherhood, sex and dating. She believes that nuclear family life and independent living are both goals fed to us by capitalism that only ever serve the rich.

Mental Health Online: Mindfulness & Meditation (From Ajuda), Thursday 12 January, 10.00am - 12.00pm

Mindfulness is a practice that teaches you how to focus your attention on the present moment. Rushing your thoughts into the future or dwelling in the past can make you feel anxious and keep your stress on a high level. This webinar will intruduce the techniques that will help you stay connected to the present moment.

Meditation is slightly different as it is a process of training your mind to focus and redirect your thoughts. It can be used as a mindfulness practice by increasing the awareness of your surroundings and yourself.

The future of Finchley Lido Leisure Centre

The council are seeking your views on the future of Finchley Lido Leisure Centre at the Great North Leisure Park. This includes the possible relocation to North Finchley Town Centre which the council hopes will deliver a range of new and improved facilities with better access and support the community infrastructure.

Love to Dance for over 50s

Love to Dance is a dance tutorial class for over 50s where you learn a dance routine and get fit. Classes are 1-2 hours long with a 10– 20-minute break, giving you time to socialise. Over 60s Creative Circle (Creative Writers Group)

Develop your writing skills, explore your creativity and meet new friends. Meets weekly at the Artsdepot (5 Nether Street Tally Ho Corner North Finchley London N12 0GA) on Mondays at 11.30am.

In its first term, the group will be led by Bunmi Ogunsiji – a published and multi award-winning author who has run creative writing sessions for Spread The Word, Greenwich Maritime Museum, Westminster Mind and others.
