I have some exciting news to share with you, team!

The bipartisan Improving Government for America's Taxpayers Act that I introduced became law as part of the National Defense Authorization Act in December.

This bipartisan legislation will help Congress achieve significant taxpayer savings via oversight, legislation, and appropriations. It will also help hold federal agencies accountable and potentially save billions of dollars annually.

Here's the bottom line: Saving taxpayers' money and ensuring that our government is serving the people is something that everyone – Democrats and Republicans – can get behind. One of my main goals in Congress has always been ensuring that the government is working for you as effectively – and efficiently – as possible. And this new law is about doing just that, by making government work better and saving taxpayer money.

I am proud of this bipartisan effort to streamline the process of improving government accountability for Americans. And I'm ready to get back to work for the people in the 118th Congress.

As always, it's an honor to represent you.

– Derek
