I need to start off this month's newsletter with a reminder to please pay your annual tax bill(s) by January 15th, if you have not already done so. Last month, I shared information about the payment options we offer. In case you missed it,
here they are. Another important item to note is that January 15th is also the deadline to apply for our
installment program. It's a simple program that let's you pay the upcoming year's tax bill a little at a time instead of all at once.
Collections Update
Since November, we have collected $219,618,894 as of December 31, 2019, or 92,556 accounts. Thank you to everyone who has paid already! You can visit our Data page to find everything from a summary of collections to a spreadsheet of every dollar we collected, by account, if you would like to learn more.
Your Tax Dollars
The tax dollars collected are eventually used to fund government operations, whether it be the County, School District, municipality, or other government entity, but the majority of the funds we collect are not used right away. This leaves me with an opportunity to put those funds to work. Many taxpayers do not realize that I am not just responsible for billing and collecting taxes but am also tasked with managing the investing of those funds.
Like everything we do, systems and process are vital to our organization and the investment process is no different. Over the past few years, my team and I have been developing a process that streamlines investment decisions and maximizes the efficient use of the County’s cash flow so that every dollar that isn’t being used, is working to earn a return. The results have been incredible, we have increased investment returns over 1,000%, without changing what we’re investing in or increasing risk. We are earning per month what we used to earn in an entire year.
Paying taxes is hard enough and if our investment returns helps to keep more money in your pocket, we’re going to do everything we can to make that happen. You can learn more about investments and read our investment policy by visiting our website.
If you have any questions about investments or taxes, please contact my team and I, it would be our pleasure to assist you. For frequent updates and reminders (like don't forget tax payments are due January 15th) like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
