As we begin a new year, I hope this newsletter finds you well and you have a had a pleasant festive season.
Last year saw much change for the UK, including the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the accession of King Charles III, to whom I’m sure the people of Banff and Buchan will join me in wishing a long and happy reign.
Around the world, as we all continue to recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, we all now face increased energy prices caused by Putin’s aggression in Ukraine.
I welcome the support provided by the UK Government, stepping up like they did during the pandemic, to support people and businesses across the UK – particularly those hardest hit.
Last year I responded to over 2,500 constituent enquiries by email, phone, and letter and held nearly 100 surgeries with constituents. In addition, I visited dozens of businesses and charities, and met countless local residents.
I look forward to continuing to serve my constituents in the coming year, both in Parliament and here in Banff and Buchan.

**Turriff Local Health Services Update**
========================================
All Following a public meeting in Turriff in August 2022, which was attended by over 150 local residents, David has met with the three health authorities, Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership, Turriff Medical Practice and Scottish Ambulance Service to address local concerns.
Now, David has secured confirmation of a second full-scale ambulance in the area and which will be on station in Turriff in 2023. In addition, further opening to the Turriff MIU is planned once training is undertaken.

**UK Government help for pensioners this winter**
11.6 million Winter Fuel Payments and Pensioner Cost of Living Payments have been made to pensioners across the UK so far this winter, including around one million in Scotland. Some payments are continuing into 2023 – and should arrive by 13 January.

**David concerned about underuse of MIUs**
Residents regularly tell me of their anguish at being on the phone for excessive periods, sometimes with no response at all, only to be eventually told to go to Huntly, Fraserburgh and Peterhead to be seen.
With ambulances queuing due to long waiting times at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, it’s more important than ever that we make use of all of our local MIUs.

**Increased fishing opportunities worth £750 million agreed for 2023**
The UK has secured a further £282 million in fishing opportunities for the UK fishing industry in 2023 after reaching a deal with the EU. This brings the total UK fishing opportunities secured across the three main negotiating forums to £750 million, £34 million more than 2022.

**Banffshire Journal 20 December 2022**
As your MP, I am working to ensure that constituents' needs are met, particularly in regards to recent challenges such as increased energy costs due to the war in Ukraine. The government plans to make £200 payments in January to those eligible for financial support, with a web portal open for those not covered. I have also met with officials and the National Farmers Union of Scotland to address the issue of avian flu, which has led to the culling of 250,000 birds.

**Turriff Advertiser Final Ever Print edition 29 December 2023**
The Turriff Advertiser newspaper will no longer be published in print, but will continue to report on local issues through the Grampian Online website. I have been working to address the issue of the European Union refusing to accept seed potato exports from the UK, including exports to Northern Ireland, due to the Northern Ireland Protocol.

**David Duguid welcomes nuclear medal award for veterans**
This is extremely welcome news for veterans in my constituency, and across the UK who served in the nuclear test programme in the 1950s and 1960s.
I have made several representations on behalf of my affected constituents since 2017 and so I am very pleased to see the Prime Minister award this medal.
The service of those veterans who served in the nuclear testing programme cannot be understated and so it is right that they are being properly recognised.
