Tomorrow night, we ring in the New Year. Today, I am thinking about all we achieved together this eventful year.
Building on our successful work together in 2018 and 2020, we won the 2022 election decisively in the newly configured TX-07. We were out and about all over our new district, meeting new people and hearing about the issues on their minds and the things they want to see happen in Washington.
Because of the work we have done together, I was able to talk to people about the critical work we have done for our community and our country this year. Here are just some of the highlights:
JANUARY
Congress started the year by taking action on one of the most pressing issues facing our democracy: voter suppression. I voted for, and the House passed, the John R. Lewis Act to ensure every American can exercise their right to vote without obstruction.
FEBRUARY
Texans rely on the Postal Service to deliver critical mail — from paychecks to medications — on time. I helped pass, and President Biden signed, a measure securing the USPS’ financial future and making mail service more reliable for everyone who depends on it.
MARCH
#TeamLizzie capped off our work to get people to the polls in the Texas primary — talking with people across the newly drawn district where 70% of voters were new!
APRIL
I voted to send urgently needed resources and aid to Ukraine to demonstrate that our country stands with Ukraine as it defends its sovereignty in the face of Russia’s unprovoked and unconscionable invasion.
MAY
Texas and other states have dropped qualified providers like Planned Parenthood from their Medicaid programs, leaving over 8,000 Texans without their trusted source of reproductive health care. I led a group of 100 Members of Congress calling on the Administration to reinstate Planned Parenthood as a Medicaid provider to ensure Texans can access the care they need.
JUNE
In response to more devastating mass shootings in Uvalde and across the country, I helped pass the largest gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years, banning large-capacity magazines, closing the “boyfriend” loophole, and encouraging safe storage of firearms.
JULY
After the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade , I introduced, and the House passed, a bill to protect Americans’ constitutional right to travel between states for the critical reproductive health care they need, a right that Texas legislators and people across the country have actively threatened.
AUGUST
Congress passed and President Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS and Science Act — both of which I worked on in my committees — to allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices, implement smart energy policy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen domestic supply chains, and secure our country’s scientific leadership.
SEPTEMBER
A bill I introduced to give disabled veterans the opportunity to update outdated adaptations to their vehicles for their medical needs if their disabilities prevent them from driving passed the House, and later the Senate, and is awaiting the President's signature.
OCTOBER
Our official team hit a milestone of successfully closing 9,000 cases for residents of TX-07 since I was sworn in in 2019, helping them navigate processes and cases before federal agencies, connecting seniors with Social Security and Medicare benefits and veterans with health care and resources from the VA.
NOVEMBER
Ahead of Election Day, #TeamLizzie knocked on thousands of doors, sent nearly 7,000 postcards and four mailers, made calls and sent texts, and delivered yard signs. We ran ads that reached nearly 2.5 million Texas households. All of our hard work paid off on election night when we brought home our third win in TX-07!
DECEMBER
Earlier this month, President Biden signed the Respect for Marriage Act — a bill I co-sponsored and helped pass the House — to ensure equal treatment under the law for same-sex and interracial couples.
This year has been a team effort, and I could not be more grateful for what you've done to make it possible to do this important work.
2023 will bring new challenges. I’ll head back to Washington next week for the beginning of the 118th Congress, and all it will bring. I remain committed to working together when we can and to standing up and fighting back for our communities and our country when we must.
We will also continue our important campaign work in 2023. We know a thing or two about that here on #TeamLizzie, as our work helped Democrats regain the House majority in 2018. We are already working to make sure we do so again in 2024, and that we help elect Democrats up and down the ballot in this important Presidential election year.
You have an important role to play in that work. One way you can help us get off to a great start right now is by contributing before tomorrow’s end-of-year FEC deadline. [[link removed]]
Thanks for considering this request, and thanks for all you do. I look forward to working with you in 2023, and I wish you all the best for a very happy new year.
Together, we can do anything,
