Josh Stein for Attorney General

With just a couple days left until we ring in 2023, I’m thinking about all we’ve accomplished this year at the NC Department of Justice. It’s been a tremendous honor to serve folks across North Carolina.

As we begin a new year, I’m determined to keep up the fight, so that we can keep building a better future for our state. Together, this year…

  • We’ve fought to safeguard health care and reproductive rights against relentless GOP attacks. As long as I’m in office, I will continue to fight these restrictive laws and defend every woman’s right to choose and safely access abortion services and other reproductive health care.

  • We held the big drug companies that fueled our nation’s opioid crisis accountable. Together, we’ve secured more than $50 billion from the companies that fueled and profited off this crisis. This is a monumental milestone that will provide critical treatment and recovery services to people in need in every corner of our state.

  • We continued to defend our democratic institutions. Recently, I was at the U.S. Supreme Court for the gerrymandering case brought by Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly that could radically reshape U.S. election laws. Here’s the gist of what I said: One of the principal rules of democratic government is that the people should choose their representatives — not the other way around. You deserve the full power of your vote to determine who represents you. And the politicians in our legislature should not discriminate against you because of your political views.

  • We pursued multinational corporations over consumer fraud, and my team brought back millions of dollars to North Carolinians who were defrauded or scammed, including fighting to protect student loan borrowers and helping secure more than $270 million for them just this year alone.

  • We championed the defense of marginalized groups across North Carolina. We stepped up to protect the rights of students, teachers, organized labor, workers, the LGBTQ community, women, immigrants and people with disabilities.

Every day, I go to work with the goal to make our state safer and stronger. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and I’m eager to keep delivering for the people of North Carolina in the new year.

But, none of that happens without you.

With so many more critical fights ahead, will you make a contribution toward our end-of-year goal so we can keep up our important work to fight for justice and equality for all? As always, any amount you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.
