1. NC VALUES: Make it count

This year – 2022 – was the year that the tide finally turned against the holocaust of abortion. It was the year that the US Supreme Court finally decimated the utterly nonsensical and unconstitutional decision of Roe v. Wade and reaffirmed the authority of the people’s elected representatives (not the courts) to make laws concerning the protection of the preborn.

Looking ahead, our state is at a crossroads: will North Carolina become a safe haven for precious babies in the womb, or the abortion capitol of the South? Will Planned Parenthood be proven right that “all roads lead to North Carolina?”

Or will you and I make sure that our state passes the strongest possible protections for the unborn – and get it done as soon as possible?

2. WASHINGTON EXAMINER: Planned Parenthood and other groups withdraw North Carolina lawsuit

"Planned Parenthood South Atlantic and others recently withdrew a lawsuit challenging five North Carolina abortion statutes, though the voluntary dismissal allows them to refile at any time.

Planned Parenthood filed the voluntary dismissal without prejudice last week, ending its legal challenge to five laws approved by the Legislature more than a decade ago to protect unborn children.

Alliance Defending Freedom, a nonprofit legal organization that represented North Carolina lawmakers, hailed the filing as 'a victory for mothers and unborn children in North Carolina.'"

3. CAROLINA JOURNAL: School choice in N.C. set to continue significant growth in 2023

“The rapid growth of school choice options brought on by the pandemic shows no signs of letting up as the calendar turns over to 2023.

Recent statistics show that for the 2021-2022 school year, there were 115,311 students enrolled in K-12 private schools, 160,528 in homeschools, and another 132,909 enrolled in public charter schools. Part of what’s fed the increase in parents looking for alternatives is the fact that many private schools remained opened during the COVID-19 pandemic, while state and local government forced traditional public school classrooms to close.”

4. CAROLINA JOURNAL: Voters set new course for N.C. Supreme Court

“The N.C. Supreme Court will look much different in 2023. Voters decided in November to oust one incumbent Democrat from the state’s highest court. Voters also replaced a retiring Democrat with a Republican. The end result is a shift in the court’s partisan control.

After six years of dominance by Democrats, including a 4-3 Democratic court for the past two years, the N.C. Supreme Court that begins work in January will feature a 5-2 Republican majority.

That partisan shift could affect major cases involving election maps, voting rules, school funding, and parental school choice.”

5. NORTH STATE JOURNAL: HARSANYI: Why the redefinition of the word ‘woman’ matters

“Samuel Johnson’s ‘Dictionary of the English Language,’ first published in 1755, defines the word ‘woman’ as ‘the female of the human race.’ And until October 2022, the word ‘woman’ was still defined as ‘an adult female human being’ in the Cambridge Dictionary. What transpired on the topic during the intervening 267 years? Not much. Science confirmed what men and women have known since Adam and Eve began talking past each other — not only do the sexes have immutable physiological differences, down to their genetic matter, but they observe, act and think differently as well.”

Weekly Prayer: NC Legislators

LORD, you also have instructed us to pray for our governing officials, and we come to you in the spirit of this petition. We pray for our national government and its executive, legislative, and judicial servants. May they indeed be servants unto the people, and govern in a manner that protects liberty and virtue. In the same spirit, we pray for public servants across our state and local governments. May they all heed your mandate in Romans 13:4 to be in positions of authority as "God's servant" and for the "good" of the public. They govern in what we confess are difficult times. May they plead with you to give them wisdom, and may your grace to govern wisely be poured out on them.

Protect us from the oppression and loss of freedoms that other countries have experienced, and help us to value and preserve freedom, which we know comes only from You.

"I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt.  I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free.  Now come, I will send you back to Egypt." Acts 7:34 (God's words to Moses)

Amen
