Yasaman Aryani, in Iran, is one of them.

With her hair uncovered, Yasaman handed out flowers to women passengers on a
train in Iran. It was International Women’s Day, and Yasaman — a young actor who
loves mountain climbing — peacefully protested Iran’s forced veiling laws in an
inspiring act of defiance.

A video of her brave act went viral, prompting Iran’s authorities to arrest her.
Now, Yasaman has been sentenced to and is serving a shocking 16-year prison term
— all because she believes women should have the freedom to choose what they
wear.

Yasaman is one of the 10 cases of young people who are featured in Write for
