As we get ready to close the books on 2022, we wanted to look back and reflect on our incredible work together this election season. So today, we’re starting with our work to support and elect progressive candidates up and down the ballot through our Courage to Change campaign.
This cycle, for the first time, Courage to Change was proud to support 60 candidates who received the Courage to Change Policy Pledge Distinction – from local school boards, to City Council, all the way up to Congress – for their commitment to progressive policies and values. Some of these races may seem insignificant or “boring,” but the truth is that these races often carry enormous power and impact.
In part thanks to our movement’s efforts, 35 of our Courage to Change candidates were elected to office!
Here are some notable Courage to Change wins:
- Pamela Price is set to become the first Black District Attorney in Alameda County, California.
- Maxwell Alejandro Frost of Florida is now the first of Gen Z to be elected to Congress, at just 25 years old.
- Ruwa Romman is the first Muslim woman to be elected to the Georgia State House.
- Triston Ezidore became the youngest elected public official in the history of Los Angeles County.
And those are just a handful of the electoral victories we claimed in 2022.
Now we’re gearing up for 2023. Even in an “off-year”, there will be elections. So we need to continue to build the progressive infrastructure to elect change-makers and people’s champions to office across the country.
Together, we will continue to build the infrastructure to elect grassroots, progressive leaders and change the way politics are funded.
