Hello John — it’s Jose Gonzalez, board member of the March For Our Lives Foundation.

My child, X Gonzalez, and I experienced firsthand the toll gun violence has on communities like ours when X survived the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in 2018. Our lives changed overnight, and we waited nearly five years to see some semblance of accountability when the perpetrator’s trial concluded last month. While we continue to demand justice for victims of gun violence, the epidemic is deadlier than ever.

Whether you are heading to class, going to the grocery store, shopping at a strip mall, or going out to a club, the fear of getting shot and killed is still there with us everywhere we go. As a parent, no one should have to live through the horror of seeing their children fight for their lives in a school shooting.

I couldn't be more proud of how far we’ve come since that mournful day. But the work is nowhere near done. I’m counting on you to keep up the fight in 2023 and beyond to build a safe country free of gun violence.

Next year, our commitment to ending gun violence remains the same. Thanks for believing in our mission and building a brighter future with us. We owe it all to each and every one of you for showing up in these critical moments to prevent the next shooting.
