Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing the thoughtful responses that so many of our top supporters gave in response to the survey we shared earlier this month. We’ve received over 600 responses so far from Democrats all across Iowa, and your feedback is extremely valuable as we put together our plan for future elections.
Many of you feel that for Iowa Democrats to be successful, we must do a better job of engaging with voters in every community across our state. Here’s a sampling of some of the responses we’ve received.
“Reach out to unions and working people” - Roger B, Ames
“Get into the rural areas of the state and show the voters that [Democrats] have good ideas.” - Sandra C, Avoca
“Engage younger voters to join the Democratic Party to help them build the future they want to see in the state.” - Ryan B, Iowa City
Another common response we received was the need to bring positivity, empathy, and respect back to politics. Here are some responses that stood out to me:
“Keep focused on the positive results of Democratic legislation.” Michael M, Decorah
“Follow Sarah Trone Garriott's lead in valuing everyone, regardless of ideology.” - Patrick G, Waukee
“Advertise more on what Democrats have been able to accomplish, such as the Infrastructure Bill, lowering prescription costs, etc. and…how these things have had a positive impact for most Iowans and young families.” - Cheryl W, Indianola
It’s clear that a major part of improving our campaigns is reaching voters where they are, and spreading a positive, pro-family message. To do that and reach as many Iowans as possible, we need your help.
